2024 Advocacy Awards
Janet Rhomberg and Mary Schmid have been pivotal figures in the establishment and continued success of Crescent Community Health Center (Crescent). Their journey began with a shared concern for accessible healthcare in Dubuque around 2002, a concern that turned into action through collaboration and partnership within the community.
The Schmid family, inspired by a visit to Davenport’s Community Health Care, recognized the urgent need for a similar facility in Dubuque. Janet and Mary, as matriarchs of the Schmid family, led the charge in making this vision a reality. Their efforts resulted in the creation of a substantial endowment at the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque, which continues to support Crescent, particularly in providing care for the uninsured.
Their advocacy went far beyond financial contributions. Janet and Mary have consistently engaged with elected officials, advocated for policies and funding, and provided personal encouragement to Crescent’s staff. Their commitment to philanthropy extends to the next generation of the Schmid family, ensuring a lasting legacy of giving back to the community.
In recognition of their unwavering support and dedication, Janet Rhomberg and Mary Schmid are the deserving recipients of the 2024 Crescent Advocacy Award. Their generosity, leadership, and passion for accessible healthcare have made a profound impact on the Dubuque community and will continue to do so for years to come.
